Females in T.V.

These three pieces are very interesting. It shows the movement of the female characters through out time. The first piece is showing how the women in the shows used to be independent and then later on they became groveling brides to their young male grooms. The next piece shows the actuality of the females in real life, feeling that they have no real power compared to that of there husbands. The females had wanted to feel equal to there husbands and never felt that they had achieved that status. The last piece was to the backlash of the over population of the father figures in the sitcoms and wanted to place more female figures into the prime time TV spots and wanted also to stop being placed in movies as just victimized women.

The Hours

This movie was a little confusing for me. I really wanted to get to know the women more then we really did. We got to see them in their day to day lives and never really got to know the women themselves. I would have to say that the changing of the time periods could have caused a problem for me in doing so because the film is only 2 hours long and does not give enough time to develop the women's identity. Also the fact that we are identifying with the women's situation not the women themselves drove me away from the movie. I would have just liked to know the women more as to relate to them not their problems.

The Dude

In The Big Lebowski the Dude is the shinning example of the lower class during the 60's. All the man does is eat, drink, smoke, and bowl. His life is a mess and during the movie all he really cares about is getting a rug back that some goons pissed on in the beginning of the movie, which he later steals from the real Big Lebowski. The Dude never really takes care of himself he is always wearing the same clothes, drunk, and stoned. The biggest aspect i would say is in this movie is the identity problem of the Dude himself because he never wants to be called Mr. Lebowski or Jeff he is the Dude, so the inner conflict with the name itself is intriguing. The ideal of not wanting to be known for who you are but the Dude what are the connotations of the Dude compared to Jeff Lebowski.

Man in the Mirror

This song done by Michael Jackson is a very interesting song for an psychoanalysis. I am going to examine just a short segment of the song.

So we can assume that the man in the mirror is Michael, himself. This then leads to what is it that he wants to change about the man in the mirror and why. So we look at what Michael has done after this song, to see what he has changed. The one thing we can see he has changed is his own body.(even though he will not admit it) His skin tone has become lighter and his nose has become smaller. So we want to know why he made these changes. This is the psychoanalysis part. We could assume that in his childhood that being black was diffucult and being white would have made his life easier. Now the changes he made were to possible become white instead of black. Yet, i really do not have a clue to what's in Michael's mind and i really do not think i want to know.

The Truman Show

For this show i am using the Foucult ideal of, "A person in thinking, living, and speaking expresses not merely himself or herself but the thoughts and roles and phrases governed by the available ways of thinking and speaking." This applies very well to the The Truman Show. The ideal of the way that Truman Burbank acts, speaks, and lives is becasue the way everything is set up around him. The way he was raised and deveoloped on the show relates to the passages of Foucult. Who he was is because of the surroundings and the way people ahve treated him during his life time. The way we act and speak are shaped by the society we live in and Truman's society revolved around him so his speech and actions would not be molded like that of someone in actual society.

Subway ad

The subway ad, which I will be looking at, is that of the ouchi mamma. This is the commercial were the employer is asking the employee for the expense report. The employer asks for the receipt from burger town and the employee doesn't have it and asks if he can photo copy his butt.
This commercial is subjected toward the upper working class people as the location is an office building and they are wearing ties and dress pants. It is also widens its clientele because of the used of the mixed races of the office employees and the language which they are using in the commercial.
